Returning Baseball umpires generally start training in January with college instructors in classroom environments.  New Umpire training is held twice a year (JAN and AUG) covering four nights with outside work as much as possible.

It costs roughly $300 to $500 to purchase protective gear to officiate baseball but returns are good if you stick with it!

Recreation Umpire pay ranges from $28  to $60 a game with scholastic pay a little higher.

> Evaluations are done on all officials prior to promotion to the next level of competition

> Scholastic umpires must prove adequate rules knowledge on the 100 question State test

> Work when you want to work, you provide the scheduler your availability for work.
